Goodway Landscape Pics : Choose the right containers There are more container styles and material choices than ever before. The most important thing is that the container be large enough for the plants you want to grow. Generous rooting space means plants grow quickly and perform well
The term exposure is used to describe the time of day in which sun contacts the plant. This exposure can change throughout the day, so you may want to check the area three times: morning, noon and evening to understand its overall exposure. These are general guidelines for planting each of the four exposures: * Northern exposure rarely receives direct sunlight and is ideal for shade-loving plants. * Southern exposure receives sun all day long and is the most ideal exposure for flowering plants. * Eastern exposure experiences morning sun while temperatures are still cool and damp. Many plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, boxwood, euonymus and holly enjoy morning sun for their foliage and flowering vigor, but prefer to keep cool in the afternoon shade. * Western exposure receives the hot afternoon sun – a spot ideal for full sun, and heat resistant plants.
Another easy way to get started with containers is to choose a single plant that has a lot of structure and drama - with its shape, color, flowers or foliage. Find a container that will show off the single plant and make a statement. In a modern metallic pot, for example, you might want a tall, spiky plant like a phormium or yucca. Or try the new Cordyline Torbay Dazzler or the stunning Twin Flowered Agave. Use something creative to mulch around the plant, like seashells, colored glass, nutshells or pebbles.
Light pruning for health (cont.) * Remove any part of the plant that looks diseased before it can spread. * Remove dead twigs and branches so these don’t become pest entry points. * Resolve conflicting branches by removing the smaller one because friction creates wounds and these invite problems. * Trim off whip-like sucker growth originating at the base of the trunk so it doesn’t ‘suck’ growth energy from the rest of the tree. * Do not prune later in the summer. Allow shoots to mature and prune again in winter.
Goodway Landscape Scenary The Pondless™ Waterfall offers a relaxing environment, is virtually maintenance free, and safe for small children. It is roughly 30-40% less expensive to operate than an Pond because there is no ecological need to constantly run the pump. Additionally, many people use a timer to operate this feature and the lights that accompany it.
Koi need to be fed, and if you feed your Koi from a consistent location your Koi can be conditioned to be rather friendly! If you purchase Koi for your pond (see below), * feed them every other day for about 2-3 minutes, then stop. Do not feed them everyday! Avoid corn meal in your Koi food, and instead seek “fish meal” or other fish protein as the first ingredient on the label; the protein content should be between 35-40%. Color enhancers are also good ( spirulina, canthaxanthin ), and a stabilized Vitamin C is crucial. If you leave for vacation Koi will help the other fish nibble on the algae and both will work to give you a maintenance free water garden!
